Ontario Optometrists Begin Job Action on Sept 1st, 2021

Blog Comments Off on Ontario Optometrists Begin Job Action on Sept 1st, 2021

For over 32 years, the Ontario Government has underfunded OHIP-insured eye exams to the point where they don’t even cover half the cost to provide the exam. This has resulted in Ontario optometrists receiving the lowest rates in all of Canada by far for eye exams. This reimbursement would have to increase by almost 70% to reach the SECOND LOWEST provincial health reimbursement.  We hope the government will address this soon!  Unfortunately, there has been a breakdown in negotiations with the Ministry of Health so Ontario Optometrists have made the difficult decision to withdraw from delivering OHIP-insured eye exams as of September 1st.  Unfortunately, we have no idea at this
time how long this strike will last. If you are willing, we would REALLY appreciate your help! You can help by
contacting your MPP or visit www.saveeyecare.ca where you can send a letter directly to your MPP, the Minister of Health and the Premier. Just let them know how much eye care matters to you and that you want this fixed.
Thank you for your understanding!
